Cho's Mohammad Bin Thuglak
Nothing has really changed since this sensational play was staged in 1968 - be it the cast, its incisive and intelligent humour, the dialogues, the thunderous applause it draws from the audience for every line uttered and above all.. our politics! Penned by 'Cho' S Ramaswamy, the eminent lawyer, satirist, actor, playwright, journalist and political analyst, Thuglak has managed to retain its freshness for several decades now. In fact, it looks more relevant now with its compulsively audacious and sassy satire. Thuglak has been staged several times across India under the auspices of Viveka Fine Arts, a 50-year old troupe known for its camaraderie, commitment and casualness. It has successfully tided over many repressive measures in the form of bans, censorship harassments and show disruptions.

Cho's Sambavaami Yuge.. Yuge!
Written and enacted by 'Cho' S.Ramaswamy, a prolific playwright, journalist,
actor and political commentator, this stage play was the first of its kind
in its bold forays into and forthright comments on politics. Supported by
sparkling wit, it caricatures the contemporary society with such vividness
that every situation, every character and every dialogue uttered are all
too familiar and relevant even today- years after it was staged first in
the early 60s. Beneath the veneer of sarcasm, author?s righteous indignation
and a desire to sensitize people on social issues come across with a striking
clarity.

Cho's Nermai Urangum Neram
This play lays bare the sorry state of democracy in India and how wheeling-dealing
passes as politics in the country. Laced with biting satire, it attempts
to sensitize people to the rampant corruption and lack of values in our
polity. Though conceived in the mid 70s and staged several times within
India, this play still retains its freshness and contemporaneity, thanks
to our politicians and the system that have remained
unchanged.

Cho's Judgement Reserved
This Twin VCD Pack contains one of the brilliant stage plays written and enacted by
'Cho' S.Ramaswamy, a prolific playwright, journalist, actor and political
commentator. It has been staged several times all over India and has been
acclaimed for its thought-provoking content, slick direction and performance.
A sensational court case provides the pivot around which revolves a variety
of colourful characters- a conscientious lawyer, his humorous and intelligent
assistant, a lady social worker, an editor of a popular journal, a film
director, a police constable- each a microcosm of the society at large.
In a telling manner, the play exposes the crass hypocrisy and opportunism
of the elite segments aided by Cho?s characteristic satire.

Cho's Sattiram Sonnathillai
In this stage play 'Cho' S.Ramaswamy, the popular actor, playwright, lawyer,
columnist and parliamentarian makes a strong social statement against casteism.
Armed with his archetypal humour and acerbic comments, he ruthlessly exposes
the duplicity and decadence caused by people?s rigid and mindless affinity
to caste. Witty yet brilliantly analytical and thought provoking, the play
has a strong undercurrent of a righteous indignation against the system
and its distorted values. Again, like any other play of 'Cho', it is still
relevant to the contemporary scene, several decades after it was staged
first.

Cho's Madras by Night
?Madras by Night?, one of the earliest stage plays of ?Cho?, is now available on DVDs and VCDs It describes some ludicrous situations that happen in one night in Madras (as the metro was then called) involving different characters that culminate in a murder. The mystery is unraveled in the climax.
True to his mettle and manners, ?Cho? essays the role of a police constable with lan. His fluent dialogue delivery in typical ?Madras? lingo evokes non-stop laughter.
The highpoint of this comedy is a street-play (?therukkoothu?) on an episode from the Ramayana wherein ?Cho? plays Kaikeyi. In his gait, coyness and costume he looks a woman from top to toe. He is ably supported by Ambi, Neelu, Sukumari and other artistes of his troupe.

Cho's Vande mataram
One of the most memorable works of 'Cho' S.Ramaswamy and specially written for the small screen, this play was very popular when it was telecast in the late 80s.On a broad canvas, it successfully re-creates the turbulent times of the Indian freedom movement with its epic dimensions. It chronicles an important phase of our history and stirs a patriotic feeling in us by reminding us of the sweat, toil and sacrifice of countless individuals. The characters are lifelike and dialogues highly incisive and thought provoking. 'Cho' essays the role of an eccentric alcoholic lawyer, certainly the best in his career, who lashes out at the rank hypocrisy of the elite with utter disdain. This play also vividly describes the overall impact of the colonial regime on the social, cultural and political fronts and the emotional conflicts it triggers amongst individuals. A must for not only Cho's fans, but also for all those who love this nation.
